Workshop
and Concert/Recordings
for Film & Multimedia
Malaga-Frigiliana, June 13-20, 2010
with
Dr. DINU GHEZZO (Professor Emeritus, New York University) and
Professor DAVID SPEAR (Hollywood Composer, Conductor & NYU Faculty)
and the Malaga Festival
Ensemble
________________________________________________________________________
We are returning to Malaga to prepare
and present our composers/conductors, this time in a concert/recording of their
own film & multimedia music.

Each
registered student will compose and conduct an ensemble consisting of 10
players:
Flutes (picc., alto, bass and C
flute)
Clarinets (all)/Saxophones (all)
Violin 1
Violin 2
Viola
Cello
DBass
Piano/Celeste/Harpsichord
Harp
Small Percussion (for more details,
contact Emil Sein)
Professors
Dinu Ghezzo & David Spear will train the students to conduct their own
works, in class meetings, individual sessions and in rehearsals and dress
rehearsal, ultimately ending with 0ne or two Concert/Recordings.
There will be three rehearsals, each of
ca. 20 minutes long for each composition as well as a dress rehearsal. We will
present one or two concerts/recordings, depending on the number of
composers/conductors registered (max. 10 persons will be accepted).
The
purpose of this workshop is to prepare the composer for his/her professional
activity, in which usually there is no budget for a conductor, due to
prohibitive costs. The reality is that, with some celebrated exceptions, the
professional composers of today are very weak conductors !!!
For
the past 30 years, Dr. Dinu
Ghezzo has trained composers to become able conductors, some developing
actual conducting careers. For the past 20 years about 40-50 composers traveled
with him to Romania to conduct the Constanta Symphony, Oradea State, and the
Bucharest Music Academy Orchestras. Some will attend the May 2010 Film Scoring
Concert/Recording with Constanta Symphony.
Newly
appointed, Prof. David
Spear brings to NYU the wealth of experience working for many years as
composer, conductor and arranger in Hollywood as well as on Broadway.
